Lockit-safe has always been in support of initiatives that encourage cycling as a sustainable mode of transport and commuting, and with recommendations to reduce risk during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce the number of people using public transport, many Local Authorities are looking to increase cycle parking provision as an enabler to more people choosing to cycle to work and school..
Our challenge was to provide additional cycle parking spaces across the regions of Perth and Aberdeen in a very short time scale of 3 – 4 weeks!
Add to this time constraint was the added restrictions around installation because of social distancing. For the school installations, this was particularly challenging as children were on site (with Scottish schools returning earlier than the rest of the UK) which required us to work around the new Covid rules for pupil bubbles and staggered breaks.
In total, we created a total of 870 additional cycle parking spaces and 270 scooter spaces
- In Perth – 40 toast rack cycle stands gave 400 cycle parking spaces
- In Aberdeen – 47 toast rack cycle stands gave 470 cycle parking spaces and 27 scooter racks created 270 scooter parking spaces in schools
Even with this big ask of a 3 – 4 weeks lead time and additional installation restriction, our teams managed the fantastic result of completing the installation 4 days ahead on the planned end dates!
