With employees being encouraged to cycle to work as a sustainable and safe way of commuting, it is not surprising that we are being asked to improved and increase the cycle parking facilities of many organisations.

Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust had a cycle parking shelter at their Hillingdon Hospital site but this was old, did not provide enough cycle parking spaces, and was becoming unsafe to use.

We always relish a challenge and as our cycle parking options are all designed and manufactured by us, we are able to provide bespoke and innovative solutions for our clients. The cycle parking compound for Hillingdon Hospital required something we hadn’t done before – changing cubicles. Adding kit lockers to cycle parking shelters has been something we have provided for a while and they are useful for cyclists to store helmets, lights, and waterproofs. For the hospital, where many employees are wearing uniforms, there was an added need for an area where they could change out of their cycling gear and into their work attire with privacy!

Our Solution

We installed a 40 cycle lockable Hamble compound onto the site that had integral kit lockers and changing cubicles. Working in a live hospital environment required comprehensive risk assessments, H&S procedures and the use of fencing and High Vis clothing to ensure the safety of people using the site and our workforce, and of course, all whilst maintaining COVID-safe practices.

We are delighted with the result which provides a safe, clean and secure space for hospital staff to leave their bikes, get changed and securely store their belongings.
